PHILADELPHIA AFTER MIDNIGHT
"Philadelphia After Midnight," L.W. Blasius, Circa. 1907
"Drinking high balls, very high, In a garden near the sky,
Up above the world were we,
This was the way it looked to me."
Easily the most infamous and renowned image of the Bellevue-Stratford! "Philadelphia After Midnight," by L.W. Blasius, circa. 1907. This was one of many postcards printed depicting famous landmark buildings in the city with a four-line verse depicting the obvious drinking theme. Here the brand-new Bellevue-Stratford sways drunkenly from side to side as patrons drink their fancy, and carriages and horse and buggy trudge along merrily!
Hi there!
ReplyDeleteAny idea where one could get a print of this?
Thanks.
